The Starview Heights Health & Wellness Committee was formed in April 2025 following a community-driven ideation session focused on identifying ways to enhance the health, wellness, and quality of life of our residents. Since then, the committee has launched a variety of programs and activities centered around education, physical activity, healthy living, and caring for our neighbors.
Learning & Wellness Education Series
The committee hosts informative presentations at the Clubhouse covering a variety of health and wellness topics, ranging from Stress Management and the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI) at UNC Asheville program to recognizing signs of medical emergencies and understanding when to seek EMS assistance. We are fortunate to have experts within our own community who have generously volunteered their time and expertise, while also bringing in outside subject-matter experts.
This fall, we plan to expand the series with a presentation on Aging in Place by a local Asheville-area organization, as well as a session with a local Mediterranean chef featuring healthy eating tips and a cooking demonstration.
Exercise & Walking Programs
Farm-Fresh & Healthy Eating Initiative
The committee established a relationship with Aramis Farms in Weaverville to make locally grown, farm-fresh food more accessible to Starview residents. The farm began last fall by setting up a seasonal produce and fresh egg stand outside the Clubhouse. This summer, the program expanded to convenient weekly pre-ordering and Thursday Clubhouse pickups, allowing interested residents to purchase fresh seasonal offerings directly from the farm.
Starview CARE Crew includes a group of volunteers who look out for Starview neighbors. Services offer temporary assistance due to illness, surgery or other circumstances where a helping hand could make life a bit easier. We can deliver meals while you recover from illness or surgery, shop for groceries and lend out medical equipment such as walkers and shower chairs. Contact Jolie Bennett (jbennett2324@gmail.com) if you have questions or would like to reach out for some assistance. Care Crew has you covered and we are happy to help.
In just over a year, the Health & Wellness Committee has created programs that not only promote healthier lifestyles but also bring neighbors together, share valuable knowledge and resources, and strengthen the sense of community and caring that makes Starview Heights special.
